1.   Reduce risk of liver cancer

Researchers from USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Centre found drinking 1-3 cups of coffee per day could have a 29% reduced risk of developing liver cancer: which is the most common type.

2.  Prevent retinal damage

A study from Cornell University showed coffee could prevent retinal damage due to oxidative stress. This isn’t because of the coffee but the chlorogenic acid: one of the strongest antioxidants in the coffee bean.

3.  Reduce pain

The Journal of Pain an American academic journal reported that 2 cups of coffee can cut post-workout muscle pain by as much as 48%.

4.  Increase your fibre intake

According to the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry a cup of brewed coffee represents a contribution of up to 1.8 grams of fibre intake of 20-38 grams.

5.   Protect against cirrhosis of the liver

New research suggests that drinking two 2 or more cups of coffee a day can reduce the risk of death from liver cirrhosis by 66%: this study was published on behalf of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

6.   Lowered risk of type 2 diabetes

A review of research conducted at Harvard found that the risk of type 2 diabetes decreases by 9% for every cup of coffee consumed. Decaf decreased risk by 6% per cup.

7.   Lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease

The European Journal of Neurology has shown considerable evidence that caffeine may protect against Alzheimer’s disease.

8.   Could reduce suicide risk

A ten year study of 86,000 of female nurses showed a reduced risk of suicide in coffee drinkers.

9.  Less risk of gout

Risk of developing gout (in men) decreases with the increase in coffee consumption. This study involved more than 50,000 men.

10. Less eyelid spasm

According to a journal of neuroscience, coffee can protect against a kind of eyelid spasm (known as blepharospasm) that can lead to blindness.

11.  Longevity
